RULES OF THE COLLEGE

Code of Behaviour
1. Irish language
Irish is the official language of the college. All students are asked to try their best to
speak it at all times. In very severe circumstances, where a student is not willing to
speak Irish, that student will be asked to leave the college.
2. Attendance
The staff of the college keep an official record of every student’s attendance during
the course.
Every student should be present for all sessions from the start to the end of the course.
The college will not accept poor attendance – unless in exceptional circumstances
3. Punctuality
Every student should be on time for every session during the course. Any student
who is not present for the roll call at the beginning and end of a session will be
marked absent.
4. Courtsey
The college expects a high standard of behaviour from students while they are in the
Gaeltacht. Bad behaviour from any student, during the course, will not be tolerated.
5. Technology
Any student who uses technology to bully or cause upset to another individual on the
course will be asked to leave the college. Students are asked not to have their mobile
phones with them or turned on (adult students) during official college proceedings.
6. Drinking, drugs, smoking, bullying and any type of personal abuse.
Colaiste Ghaoth Dobhair/ Coláiste Ghaoth Dobhair adheres to the laws of the country,
the guidelines in Rialacháin faoina dtugtar aitheantas do coláistí Gaeilge and college
policies with regard to drinking, drugs, smoking, bullying and any type of personal
abuse. Any student who violates any of these laws or rules will be asked to leave the
college.
7. Co-operation
The college hopes that every student will enjoy their time in the Gaeltacht. Irish
courses work best on a basis of co-operation and all students are asked to do their best
in this regard while they are in the Gaeltacht.
